April 20, 2023 — Thursday,
Solar Eclipse In Aries,
at 06:12,

Central European Time

The next New Moon in Aries is significant in that it will also be a hybrid Solar Eclipse, meaning that it will be seen as partial in some parts of the world and as total in other parts. Hybrid Solar Eclipses are rare phenomena that only happen a few times each century, and this particular eclipse will be visible in western Australia, East Timor and eastern Indonesia.

Hybrid eclipses occur due to the fact that the Earth is curved and the Moon’s shadow has different regions, notably the darker central region known as the umbra and the lighter outer region, the penumbra. Hybrid eclipses occur when the Moon is as far from Earth as it can be in its elliptical orbit, while the umbra meets the surface of our planet.

This New Moon and Solar Eclipse is an important moment on many levels, mostly because it happens at the last degree of fiery Aries, the so-called Anaretic degree, which itself has an impatient nature — 29° Aries 49'. Immediately afterwards at 6:29 AM, the Moon is moving into the sign of patient Taurus, and at 10:13 AM, the Sun is following and will enter this fixed sign, with an earth quality, bringing us to a slowing pace, a need for practicality, regulated behaviour and material strength.

The very next day, April 21, at 10:35 AM, Mercury begins its retrograde motion in the same sign (April 21 — May 14), and all this indicates a change of pace, vocabulary and habits, as well as playing by new rules which will require correction and adaptation, mostly in the financial and banking sector, as Mercury in Taurus represents all financial contracts, loans or payments, as well as property, tangible assets or construction land. So this is a month that will require resistance, strength and endurance in every way.

With the transit of the Sun and the Moon in Taurus, Aries loses its dominance, but this sign will still be active by CHIRON (16° Aries 41'), then JUPITER (23° Aries 44') and ERIS (24° Aries 35‘), the latter two in close conjunction, which will insist on rapid transformation in some specific sectors. From here may arise disappointment, hurt, difficulties or hidden solutions that are a call to change habits of action: new lessons, hidden blessings and healing, instead of self-pity.

The strongest aspect of this SOLAR ECLIPSE is the square with PLUTO in AQUARIUS, which will emphasize the desire for power over others and the pursuit of one’s personal interests, which of course can lead to conflict, the need for dominance, as well as extreme and obsessive tendencies. In a positive sense this aspect can lead to inner transformation, impulse control and regeneration, by taking on new identities after old ones have served their purpose.

It is good to bear in mind that ordinary New Moons have an influence of a month, while the influence of Eclipses extends over six months, so this is something of a reset and a good chance to start anew, each in their own specific area of action. Of course, this depends on where this eclipse will occur in individual horoscopes, and it will be most felt by people who have planets either Ascendant/Descendant, IC or MC on the last degrees of the cardinal signs.

SOLAR ECLIPSE square PLUTO out of sign is a somewhat warlike situation, when ego and emotional needs come to the fore and when there is a fanatical desire to gain an advantage over others, as well as intense feelings to fulfil personal desires and motivations. The desire for power, the compulsion to be recognized and to play for life and death will now be very strong, almost unstoppable.

You may have to defend your personal position from completely new angles and ways and be alert not to be a target of someone’s jealousy, hidden agendas, schemes and manipulations. Perhaps the sense of identity will crumble, and you will want to stay the same or defend your position from a new perspective. You may reach the point where you desire or are driven to play with ulterior motives, to serve or defend yourself against lies, dangerous individuals, or destructive relationships, but all of this will bring you a new perspective on what goes on behind closed doors of the closet. Emotion can be a weakness, but in this case it can also be a power, so this influence should be used to overcome fear and pave a new path in life.

MERCURY sextile MARS will emphasize the ability to think and act quickly and decisively — practical and focused on family affairs, home or place of residence — as well as the ability to put your own ideas into action yourself.

MERCURY conjunction URANUS is an aspect that will emphasize sudden information, therefore, original ideas and reformatory attitudes will appear, with which you will be open to challenge the status quo. Not always a stable aspect, this influence can emphasize impatience, nervous tension, anxiety and mental stress. In a positive sense, you can come up with original solutions because your intuition will be sharp and reliable.

The so-called Swallowing of the Sun square to Pluto is an encouragement to see your dreams and visions in a light-hearted reflection. Dreams and visions will offer you keys to your inner processes and all this will give you a sense of purpose, vitality and new life force. The Sun is celebrated as life-giving energy and in some cultures as a god: in Greek, Roman and Hindu literature the Sun is mentioned as a visible form of God that we can see every day. The same thing happens with the Egyptian, Aztec and Inca cultures.

This Solar Eclipse is happening at 29° Aries 49', and the Sabian symbol for this degree is called — A Duck Pond And Its Brood. In addition to the initial impression of a family idyll and a sense of togetherness and belonging, this symbol speaks of a kind of isolation or unwillingness to face life’s challenges mostly due to a poor understanding of the initial efforts, especially in the past since this is also the last degree of Aries, the sign which archetype signifies initiatives, beginnings, pioneering and a sense of identity.

From here emanates resentment, selfishness, unpleasant temper and ambition to the point of intimidation and bullying, which incites fear and desire to fight. As a karmic degree, the desire to overcome limiting circumstances is great, but often becomes a basis for argumentation or debate. In a positive sense this degree gives love of home, prosperity in marriage, devotion and good nature, but because it is attacked by Pluto in Aquarius, it can cause lies, betrayals, sudden changes and playing the blaming game or feelings of guilt.

Since the ducklings swim behind the mother, this degree immediately portrays a family idyll, the need to protect and teach the youngest, and therefore emphasizes the need for security and care of loved ones. The feeling of belonging, family issues, progeny, but also limitations are emphasized because the pond is small, that is, it has its own capacity. Each new attempt reveals our own capacities and limitations, that is, the youthful overestimation of things or the mature understanding of all potentials. This also means taking bold steps as opposed to taking baby steps; retaining childhood innocence versus veering off track and finding yourself in some strange no man’s land. Weird adventures, individualistic perspectives and self-discovery.

``Therefore, the key phrase for this symbol is — The realization of natural boundaries… Peace and inner contentment with one’s essential destiny (dharma) is required to meet the everyday world. The mystic may experience flights of imagination and transcendent vision, but he must return to the concrete earth and to his task in his social environment. Extensive as the latter may seem it is still very small compared to the galactic field; it is indeed a duck pond compared to the ocean. But it is there that the substance for concrete action has to be found, and every effective activity has to be focused; thus the boundaries imposed by the very nature of this activity have to be consciously accepted. We live in a time where so much of humanity has been raised to consume — we are so focused on having more, achieving more, spending more that we have forgotten how to grow sustainably. Our consumption is killing us.

Creativity and intuition come from the same sacred place; they cannot be reproduced. During the last New Moon we planted new seeds — now they need to blossom. To show their beauty in the lush greenery. Somewhere along the way we stopped seeing ourselves as artists, creatives, poets, singers, parents… and being human means being creative.

The end result doesn’t really matter, it’s the intention that matters, that place from which all creativity springs. The seeds planted have intelligence within them and all you have to do is nurture them through daily grounded, creative action — they will show you the way. Talk to your loved ones and friends and collaborate. This type of support will bring good results.
